The desire to preserve youth has long shaped the beauty industry, from skincare innovations to aesthetic treatments. And that desire isn’t going anywhere.
But as conversations shift toward longevity, there’s a growing recognition that aging brings something worth celebrating, too: experience, perspective, and a confidence that can only come with time.
The Woman
At 57, Lucy Liu has spent decades navigating Hollywood, an industry where youth has long been a valuable currency. Actress, director, visual artist, and mother, she’s continued to evolve in ways that extend far beyond her appearance. As the new Asia Pacific ambassador for Merz Aesthetics’ Proudly Becoming campaign, she represents a woman whose age and experience are central to her appeal.

Some Things Only Come With Age
The confidence to say no. The ability to choose your battles. Knowing which opinions matter and which don’t.
There is a particular kind of freedom that comes from knowing yourself better, one that’s shaped by years of living, learning, making mistakes, and beginning again.
These are things that can’t be bought or hurried. They have to be experienced.
Beauty’s Changing Faces
Lucy wasn’t the only woman in this stage of life given a platform at the event.
Taiwanese actress Sonia Sui, Korean makeup artist and entrepreneur Jung Saem Mool, and Thai beauty personality Momay Buranasiri—all in their mid-40s to late-50s—joined Singapore-based aesthetic physician Dr. Siew Tuck Wah for a conversation on skin longevity, confidence, and aging.

There’s a business case for speaking to women in midlife, certainly. But representation matters, too. These are women whose influence has grown alongside their experience, bringing perspectives shaped by years in industries where beauty and appearance have always mattered.
The Science
The language of aesthetic medicine is evolving, too. Skin longevity is gaining attention as clinicians explore how the skin’s quality, structure, and function change over time.

At the symposium, Merz Aesthetics introduced SkinGivity Solutions, a science-informed framework that considers the interconnected nature of facial aging and encourages more individualized treatment planning.
“Changes in skin quality, structure, volume, and movement don’t happen independently. They influence one another over time.”— Dr. Samantha Kerr, Chief Scientific Officer, Merz Aesthetics
Can We Embrace Aging and Still Want to Look Youthful?
Of course, we can.
We can appreciate the wisdom, confidence, and perspective that come with getting older while still wanting to preserve the firmness of our skin, the definition of our features, or simply the way we feel when we look in the mirror.

Aging well can mean different things to different people. Our relationship with our appearance is personal, and often more complicated than a single philosophy can capture.
The Role of Aesthetic Medicine
As our understanding of facial aging becomes more sophisticated, so do the approaches available to address it.
Merz Aesthetics’ Proudly Becoming Collection brings together Ultherapy Prime, Xeomin, Belotero, and Radiesse—technologies and injectable treatments designed to address different concerns, from skin laxity and expression lines to facial volume and skin structure.

The important part is understanding what each treatment can realistically achieve and finding an approach appropriate for the individual.
The Perspective
Perhaps the most interesting shift is how we’re beginning to define aging well. It can involve caring for our skin, considering aesthetic treatments, and wanting to maintain our vitality. But it can also mean appreciating the person we’ve become through the years.
