An awaited and important release, L’Or de J’adore marks master perfumer Francis Kurdjian’s first main—and monumental—creation as Dior Parfums creative director
We were expecting his debut fragrance to be an all-new perfume in the Dior Private Collection, but now that we think about it, it’s actually a wise, if not strategic decision to have chosen J’adore with a recreation of L’Or.
It puts the focus on Dior and the legendary perfume itself, rather than the perfumer, whom we all know is a superstar in the industry himself. On this note, do not expect L’Or de J’adore to have any semblance to Kurkdjian’s popular fresh and amber creations under his eponymous label. This is distinctly Dior, a testament to his extraordinary gift as a true perfumer and his exceptional ability to craft fragrances that seamlessly embody the DNA of whichever brand he works with and translate the essence of each brand into a unique olfactory experience, all while skillfully avoiding any overbearing personal imprint.
This 2023 iteration of L’Or de J’adore delves into the soul of Dior, a “golden” version of its 2003 and 2017 editions. It’s a white floral scent through and through with its iconic rich and precious jasmine as the star in this floral feast. The addition of orange blossom adds brightness to the scent, and if we may say, is perhaps the Kurkdjian touch. It also has rose absolute, lily of the valley, violet. It’s a bouquet. “I wanted to move from the aura of J’adore to the gold of J’adore…,” shared the perfumer. “I wanted to give this floral signature accents of purity by exaggerating the contours of the flowers, to bring out all their nuances and define a new texture, like enveloping liquid gold.” True enough, this is a sensual floral that smells very real and pure.
True to J’adore, it lasts, lingers, and leaves an impression. A must-have for white floral perfume lovers and collectors alike.
