Here Comes the Bride: All the Beauty Tweaks and Treatments to Do Before Your Big Day

A comprehensive guide (and timeline!—from when you get engaged, up until your wedding day) to get your pre-wedding beauty preps started.
Reading Time: 7 minutes

Wedding planning can be hectic, and, well, it may or may not take a toll on your looks, too. Your big day is called such for a reason: Other than making your love and bond official, it’s also a day where snapshots, candid or otherwise, and countless video footage, abound. It’s more than enough to make sure you’re looking and feeling your best—in all ways, from all angles, top to toe.

Fret not, because we’ve got you covered. We break down all your wedding beauty needs, from your skin to your body, down to your hair and nails, and list down recommendations of tweaks and treatments you may consider doing, as far back as six months from the big day.

Let’s get real, your wedding is actually the perfect excuse to get yourself pampered and book that treatment you’ve always wanted to get done, right?

6 MONTHS OR MORE

Hair

There are a few things to do once you get engaged: Book your preferred suppliers and coordinate with your hairstylist—half kidding! But seriously, sit down with your hairstylist and let them know your timeline and your ideal hair for the big day. This gives you enough time to treat your hair with care through a professional, with the support of a home-based routine like hair masks and vitamin supplements.

Face

Meet up with your trusted dermatologist and if you don’t have one, you can book consultations from a number of clinics in the metro. Just like with your hairstylist, let them know your plans and goals for the wedding day itself so they can help plot a treatment plan. At the same time, make sure you are consistent with your skincare routine—especially with the use of sunblock on your face, neck, and decolletage.

At six months, you can already opt for certain treatments like Ultherapy or Sofwave—they are non-invasive and are designed to lift, tighten, and encourage collagen production. By the time your big day rolls up, your face will be in its tip-top shape.

We know it’s tempting to go for microblading or facial tattoos, but perhaps, skip this until after your wedding.

Body

Depending on your budget and schedule, you can start (or continue) a workout routine. We recommend pilates—it’ll lengthen you, strengthen your core and muscles, and most of all, it’ll help with your posture which is most important for the big day.

Hair

Time to take haircare to the next level by trying out certain haircare treatments that will make your locks supple, manageable, and silky smooth. You can do scalp treatments to gently exfoliate your scalp and encourage blood flow for proper hair growth. You can also try treatments that use Nano Steam and a Frozen Iron to lock in all the good stuff—this will help with frizz and even repair your strands.

Aveda Botanical Repair with Nano Steam and Cryotherapy Iron at Ulo Salon

Face

Regularly go for facials leading up to the wedding day. This will help maintain all the hard work that you have done by doing your skincare routine at home and also keeping inflammation and acne at bay. You can also ask your dermatologist for recommendations depending on your skin concerns.

It’s also time to schedule your botox for fine lines and wrinkles, fillers for volume, or threads for loose skin, should you decide to do so. Remember: This is all about you and what will make you confident!

Teeth

Time to schedule a cleaning (yes, a prophylaxis) and even a whitening session. This will make sure your smile is taken care of for your wedding day. Try to avoid consuming food and drinks that might stain your teeth as well, like wine or coffee, but if it’s really needed, make sure you rinse with water as soon as possible.

Face and Hair

Go on your hair and makeup trial with your makeup artist and hairstylist. It’s your chance to experiment with your look, and ultimately, finalize your hairstyle and makeup for the big day. As early as now, make sure to keep your team posted when it comes to all makeup allergies, skin reactions, and even all your scheduled beauty appointments for hair color, spray tans, and so on.

Body

We want a healthy and glowing bride—inside and out—so be sure to hydrate yourself with a lot of water and try to limit your intake of processed food. You can also do IV treatments to address specific concerns like boosting your immunity, easing anxiety, slowing down aging, and so on. If you want to go the extra mile to get rid of bloating, you can consider a colon cleanse.

As for your skin, you can also opt to regularly do body scrubs at home and make sure you moisturize right after.

Hair

If you are planning to have your hair colored or your roots touched up, then now is the time. We’re not hoping for any beauty mishaps, but just in case you encounter issues or change your mind, you still have enough time to change it up with some rest days in between.

Full Head Color (Davines or L’Oreal) at Emphasis Salon

Starts at P3,250, book via Parlon

Face

Book a facial massage to help get rid of water retention and lymphatic drainage. This will sculpt your face for the big day; just make sure you disclose all the other treatments you have done so that the specialist is fully aware. But seriously, this will help you relax and make you look snatched in the best possible way!

If you’re also thinking of doing lash extensions, we suggest you skip this first so that your glam team can have full control when it comes to your look.

Body

Interested in a little glow? Then now is the time to do a spray tan. You can go one shade (two, at most!) darker and it’ll look like you are sun-kissed on your wedding day. It’ll be perfect if you’re having an outdoor or beach wedding. Also, be reminded to update your makeup artist, okay?

Nails

Your nails can be done a week or a few days prior to your wedding to make sure they are in tip-top shape and have no chips or breakage. You can also make sure to moisturize your hands and cuticles with a hand cream.

THE DAY BEFORE

Hair

Hairstylists usually ask you to skip the conditioner so that your hairstyle for the big day will hold. Preparations vary depending on who you are working with, so best to ask them in advance.

Face

No need to do anything fancy or out of the usual, just make sure you properly cleanse your skin before sleeping and do your skincare routine. You can also do sheet masks with your entourage!

Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Powerfoil Mask

P5,750, Rustan’s

Body

Keep yourself hydrated with lots and lots of water. Even if it’s tempting, don’t indulge in salty snacks, or sweets, and most of all, do not eat anything out of the ordinary, like raw fish. All of this will make sure you are glowing and will prevent bloating or an upset stomach.

Sleep, sleep, sleep. We can’t emphasize this enough! You will not regret looking and being well-rested with a full and exciting day up ahead. This. Is. It!
