Buzzy Beauty: The Latest Scoop You Need To Know

From food-inspired products to viral makeup routines, we’ve got the latest beauty buzz worth knowing—and perhaps buying, too!
Reading Time: 5 minutes

Beauty enthusiasts know this: Trends and topics can rise and fall in the blink of an eye. The hottest in the scene may dominate social media for days—sometimes, weeks—before being eclipsed by the next big thing. However, there are trends that have a lasting effect, thanks to the creativity of both product and campaign and the strong demand from the market. In today’s digital era, powerful online buzz can catapult beauty products straight to the top of everyone’s feeds. With that in mind, here are a few buzzworthy beauty topics that you’ll want to keep an eye on.

Huda Beauty Drops Ube-Inspired Collection

Even before the Ube Collection Kit officially launched, Huda Beauty founder Huda Kattan featured one of the products—the Ube Birthday Cake loose powder—in one of her videos. This teaser sparked much buzz in the global beauty community, with content creators rushing to recreate their own versions, pairing purple eyeshadows with the loose powder. Several videos then reached the beauty magnate. With a mix of humor and mild concern, she remarked that the results didn’t quite match the unique effect of the Ube Birthday Cake loose powder.

If there’s one thing we can’t deny, it’s that this was one heck of a marketing move. The teaser video sent people rushing online to discover what ube (a.k.a. sweet purple yam) is all about. In a stitched video with Filipino beauty content creator Sean Anthony, Kattan shared how the collection was inspired by her love for ube and her admiration for the Filipino community. As a nod to the beloved crop, the founder included three products in the kit, each showcasing an electric lilac shade.

For a quick rundown: The kit includes the Ube Birthday Cake loose powder from their Easy Bake line, designed to deliver a brightening finish suitable for those with a warm tan and olive undertones. Next, there’s the Ube Cream from the Blush Filter range, which gives off a soft flush of pink when blended. Lastly, the Uuu-Baby Lip Gloss from the Faux Filter lineup offers a subtle blend of lilac and pink, topped off with some shimmer.

With that, we would like to quote Kattan as we say, “Rise up, Filipino baddies!”

It’s no secret how trends from two decades ago are making a major comeback in both fashion and beauty. We saw the rise of Y2K fads in recent years, but now, we have shifted the spotlight, and it’s all about the edge of the ‘90s. In the lipstick world, a significant part of this resurgence can be attributed to Erin Parsons, makeup artist and vintage makeup collector, who has been spotlighting coveted M.A.C lipstick shades from that era since 2023. One of her videos even highlighted Angelina Jolie’s favorite shade, Folio, from 1998, a ghostly nude that sparked a wave of nostalgia and discussion. Parsons’ series on ‘90s makeup has inspired beauty enthusiasts to hunt for dupes—or even track down the discontinued M.A.C lipsticks themselves—creating a frenzy among vintage beauty lovers.

Enter M.A.C Cosmetics Nudes Collection, a highly anticipated return of these iconic shades to the beauty scene—one that more than delivers. This curated collection features 28 new shades across both lip and eye products. For those specifically eyeing the iconic ’90s shades, you’ll want to grab Fleshpot, Peachstock, and Stone from the Sleek Satin line, or Folio (a.k.a. Jolie’s favorite) in the Silky Matte roster. The reintroduced collection was designed to complement a wide range of undertones, ensuring that everyone gets their shot at having their own supermodel-approved look when they hit the streets.

fwee Joins the Jelly Format Craze

In 2022, we saw the influx of content about fwee, a K-beauty brand that took the spotlight with the release of its Lip & Cheek Blurring Pot. True to its name, the lippie came in a unique blurring pudding formula with a mousse-like, velvet texture that filled and smoothened lip lines with a few taps. The result was a soft, almost airbrushed finish—a look that is very much loved in K-Beauty culture.

The brand continues to expand its collection by releasing another pudding pot, the Lip & Cheek Glowy Jelly Pot, a new addition that offers a dewy, subtle shine finish. For a quick comparison, think Milk Jelly Tint or Happy Skin Jelly Blush—but in a pot. Though it was released in September 2024, this product has yet to hit the global market, likely due to varying preferences in formulation. Shifting the conversation to the local scene, jelly blush formulas have sparked polarizing reactions, as they often dry down quickly, leaving little time to blend seamlessly. While we can’t say for certain that fwee’s formula has the same issue, remember that it’s always best to prep the skin for a smooth, stress-free application!

Billie Eilish and Her Viral Lip Combo

After countless recreation videos and makeup dupes attempting to replicate Billie Eilish’s iconic makeup look, the Grammy-winning singer finally dropped her complete routine on TikTok on December 22—a perfect Christmas gift for both beauty enthusiasts and fans, if you ask us. The post quickly went viral, sending content creators from all over the world to purchase and mimic the singer’s look. However, it was her lip combination that truly captured the attention of the many since plenty have tried to crack the code for months.

For those who want to jump in on the routine, here’s a quick step-by-step guide:

  • Line your lips with Sachue’s Stay-N Lip Liner in the shade SINamon. Let it set for about two minutes before blending in the pigment with your finger or a cotton bud.
  • Apply Tower28’s OneLiner Multi-Liner in Work of Art on your lips, shading it gradually from the edges toward the center, but stop before reaching the middle to achieve a natural gradient finish.
  • Gently pat in some loose powder onto your lips to set the combination for a lasting effect.

Glossier Entered 2025 With a New Cherry Collection

Trends come and go, but one has proven to have real staying power since its debut in 2022: the cherry trend. From clothing and accessories to lipsticks, blushes, and nail colors, this specific hue took over—and let’s be honest, we’re pretty sure nearly all of us tried it at some point last year.

Glossier took up the challenge to carry on this shade with the launch of the Black Cherry Collection, a lineup of four products from their most popular selections—all named and infused with the rich shade of black cherry. For the lips, the collection features both Balm DotCom and Lip Line. Both offer a burgundy red, but the balm has a sheer and buildable formula, while the liner has a creamy, almost crayon-like texture that claims to be long-wearing. For the cheeks, Glossier introduces the shade with their must-have Cloud Paint blush—a deep burgundy red that blends out to a natural, not-so-opaque flush. Lastly, there’s the No. 1 Pencil eyeliner, which has a slight shimmer infused into its playful red shade. With this lineup, it’s surely tempting to create a monochromatic cherry-inspired look!
