Welcome to Expert’s Spotlight, a new series highlighting leading dermatologists, editors, and creators—each sharing their trusted essentials and the philosophies behind them.
When your skin’s on edge—flushed, flaky, breaking out, or simply off-balance—Dr. Windie Villarica-Hayano believes the best response is not panic, but precision. “Sometimes, less is more,” she says. Known for her calm, evidence-based approach and straightforward bedside manner, Dr. Villarica-Hayano has long been a trusted name in dermatology, championing treatments that are safe, effective, and guided by science—not trends.
For The Beauty Edit’s Expert’s Spotlight, the board-certified dermatologist curates her Skin SOS Kit: a handful of rescue essentials she reaches for when skin needs to heal, calm, or reset. From hardworking moisturizers to lightweight SPF sticks, each one reflects her skin philosophy—discipline, practicality, and a touch of wit.
1. Pro Age Eye Cream

3. Pure Culture Dream Drops Universal Hydro-oil
“I like that you can spray it—it leaves a micelle of oil and water that’s hydrating but not cloying,” she explains. “I used it after a chemical peel and it was very useful once the exfoliation started. It’s even great for controlling flyaway baby hairs (though that’s not what it’s for originally)!”
Why it’s in the kit: Gentle, nourishing hydration that restores skin post-treatment and soothes on contact.

Get To Know the Expert
Dr. Windie Villarica-Hayano is one of the country’s most respected dermatologists—known for her evidence-based approach, understated elegance, and calm authority in all things skin. A trusted dermatologist with over two decades of clinical experience, she is the managing Director at The Skin Inc. Dermatology and Laser Center. Her philosophy is rooted in science over trends, favoring safe, proven treatments and practical routines that adapt to each patient’s lifestyle. Beyond her clinic practice, she is a sought-after speaker and educator in the field, often bridging the gap between medical rigor and real-life beauty.
Her Philosophy: Science Before Trends
“As a doctor, I’ve always espoused evidence-based medicine over trends,” Dr. Villarica-Hayano explains. “Once proper consult and diagnosis are made, treatments will always be the safest, most effective, and validated approach. That doesn’t mean I shun what’s new—just that everything must be guided by peer-reviewed literature. And treatments shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. They have to fit a patient’s lifestyle and budget.”
On Common Mistakes During Skin Flares
“It depends on the condition, but generally, stop active ingredients and avoid allergens, alcohols, and fragrances,” she advises. “Sometimes less is more. Seek a doctor’s help when in doubt.”
Her Non-Negotiables
“I always have something to suppress inflammation, like a steroid or antihistamine. For topicals, a calming cream, salicylic acid or retinoid for breakouts, and of course—sun protection.”
How Her Own Routine Has Evolved
“My skin used to be resistant, but as menopause hit, it’s become drier,” she shares. “Now I’ve added more hydrating serums and thicker creams. I’m disciplined about double cleansing, moisturizing, my actives, and sun protection.”
And when it comes to treatments? “I do my ‘Windie Special’ at the clinic—my bare-minimum combination of HIFU (ULTRAFORMER MPT), Botox, Rejuran or NCTF, and Thulium Lasers with exosomes, all in one day, three times a year. It works for me and my busy patients.”
The Takeaway
Dr. Villarica-Hayano’s Skin SOS Kit is a reminder that the best rescue routine isn’t complicated—it’s consistent, intentional, and guided by understanding your skin’s needs. “It’s still a medical service,” she says. “It’s important that my patients and I understand what we’re trying to accomplish.”
