From breakouts and dry patches to new products and questionable skincare experiments, your best friend probably knows your skin almost as well as you do.
For this edition of Trial & Splendor, we put that familiarity to the test—bringing five pairs of best friends together for a 14-day skincare trial. Each duo received a kit of Cetaphil’s Bright Healthy Radiance products and was asked to use the lineup, compare notes, and see what they noticed along the way.
The trial included five products: the Bright Healthy Radiance Gentle Renewing Cleanser, Brightness Reveal Creamy Cleanser, Brightening Day Protection Cream SPF 15, Brightening Night Comfort Cream, and Instant Radiance Mask. With different skin types, concerns, and approaches to skincare, each pair had the chance to see how the same lineup could feel and perform differently from one person to another.
Over the next two weeks, they tracked everything from hydration and texture to radiance and the appearance of dark spots. Here’s what happened when skincare became a two-person trial.
Caryll & Cami: Finding the Right Balance for Sensitive Skin
Caryll Cabuhat and Cami Paguirigan have been best friends for 10 years, having met in high school when they were around 16. Their friendship began during a difficult time for both, when they found themselves crying in the same spot over their respective teenage struggles. Their bond has only grown stronger over the years. “She’s become the sister I’ve always wanted to have since I was young,” shared Caryll.
Their beauty routines are another point of connection. Cami revealed that her favorite thing about Caryll is her taste, from clothes to makeup to skincare. “I honestly got pretty much my routines from her,” she said.
And while both have sensitive skin, their individual concerns are quite different. Caryll has combination skin, with dryness around the sides of her face and oiliness through her T-zone. Cami has very dry, eczema-prone skin, so hydration is a non-negotiable in her routine.

After about a week of using the range, Cami was already paying attention to how it addressed some of her main skin concerns. “I have some dark spots and some sun spots and I really struggle with dry skin [and patches].” By Day 14, Cami had a clearer sense of how thee range was working for her complexion. The richer night cream became especially helpful on days when her skin needed more moisture.
“The biggest difference actually that I’ve seen in my skin after using these for around two weeks was just how radiant [my skin] looked,” said Cami.
“So I would wake up… and my face would be very healthy-looking—to the point that there are days when I felt like I don’t even want to put makeup on,” she shared. “I’ve found that my skin [was] a lot, a lot more even and brighter.”
Caryll, meanwhile, has always been intentional about keeping a minimalist routine. She has been using the Cetaphil cleanser for two years because of her sensitive skin.
The Brightening Night Comfort Cream initially surprised her because of its thicker consistency. She typically gravitates toward gel moisturizers, but found that the cream absorbed quickly once applied. “After application, it felt really smooth on my skin. It was really lightweight, and my skin just really absorbed it immediately.”

By Day 7, Caryll had settled into using the cream at night and was noticing subtle changes in how her skin looked and felt by morning. “Waking up after that, surprisingly, my skin didn’t look tired,” she revealed. The formula had become a welcome part of her evening routine, with a brighter, more rested-looking complexion among the changes she noticed.
She also liked how her skin looked beneath makeup, an important consideration for someone who prefers a streamlined regimen and pays close attention to how products layer.
By Day 14, she found that using the line had been an easy addition to her routine. “ Every morning, my skin looked more refreshed, well rested as well.”
She also noticed that her skin felt smoother and looked more even and healthy, with less of the dullness she was used to seeing. After two weeks, what stayed with Caryll was how much more comfortable she felt with the way her skin looked naturally. It was a simple shift, but enough to make her want to keep the routine going.
Mary & Arian: Hydration with a Radiance Boost
Mary Parcon and Arian Cortez have been friends for more than two years, having met through a mutual friend. Despite an initially awkward first impression, they quickly grew close and are now almost inseparable. Over time, Arian has watched Mary navigate motherhood and everything that comes with it, giving her a perspective that goes beyond what anyone might see from the outside. “She’s really responsible, she’s a mom of two, she’s very strong,” said Arian.
On the flip side, Mary admires Arian for being someone who knows what she wants and has built a life around her own sense of independence.
Differences aside, their skincare concerns overlap. Mary has combination skin that can swing between oily and dry, while Arian has combination-to-dry skin and tends to need constant moisturization.
Mary was already familiar with the brand before the trial and had recently started using it again after experiencing breakouts from trying other products. During the trial, she noticed that her skin felt increasingly hydrated and that her breakouts appeared to be lessening.
“I started noticing my skin that it’s more hydrated, more moisturized, and I could really see my breakouts starting to lessen,” said Mary.

Arian’s focus, meanwhile, was dryness and dark spots around her jaw and chin. The Night Comfort Cream quickly became a standout because it kept her skin hydrated overnight without feeling heavy. “The night comfort cream… kept [my skin] hydrated all night and most importantly, I didn’t break out.”

By Day 7, she was also noticing a smoother texture while finding that the products worked comfortably under makeup.
After 14 days, Arian felt that her dark spots appeared lighter and her skin looked smoother and more hydrated. Mary noticed a similar improvement in moisturization, while acknowledging that some dark spots were still visible and might need more time.
The Night Comfort Cream remained the shared favorite. “For me, when I was using the night cream, every time I wake up, my skin feels like glass skin. So it’s really moisturized, not dry nor super oily, just the right balance,” said Mary.
“I experienced the same feeling. It did also give me glass skin. And it’s very comfortable and [doesn’t feel heavy],” said Arian.
May & Sha: Skin Refresh Without the Fuss
May Santos and Sha Calderon have been best friends since meeting at their first job at Summit Media in 2018. Their friendship has grown into the kind where they turn to each other for both everyday problems and celebrations. “She’s my go-to person, no matter what [the] problem is or what type of celebration [we’re having],” May shared.
Sha calls May her “human diary,” saying, “she knows everything about me.” Their approaches to beauty, however, are quite different. Sha leans more toward makeup, while May developed a stronger interest in skincare after working for a skincare brand.
Their skin types differ, too. May describes hers as combination but leaning dry, with aging as one of her main concerns. Sha, meanwhile, has oily skin, particularly around her T-zone, and follows a more extensive routine that includes cleanser, toner, serum, rotating actives, retinol, moisturizer, and SPF.
For Sha, hydration was the first noticeable change. After seven days, she found the Night Comfort Cream particularly helpful for making her skin feel fresh and plump in the morning.

“The products did help with hydration, especially the Night Comfort Cream that I really consistently used the first seven days.”
By Day 14, hydration remained the biggest takeaway. “My skin really does feel more hydrated, more plump, and more moisturized, and overall healthier,” said Sha.
May had a different priority: keeping her routine easy to follow. She described the trial as a “no-fuss” experience. “I’m someone who actually likes my skin care like very simple. I don’t really want that many steps in my everyday routine.”

After two weeks, she felt that her skin looked brighter and more moisturized. “It’s been very radiant and looks very bright and moisturized.” The SPF in the day cream was another practical plus for May, who is frequently outdoors and likes to work out.
Dane & Fran: Softer, More Hydrated Skin
Dane Navia and Fran Zabala met at the office in 2022 and became close quickly. In fact, their first conversation got so personal that they jokingly ended up blocking each other on social media. What ultimately made them click was a shared way of thinking. “We understand each other, we somehow think alike, we get each other without explaining too much,” spilled Fran.
Both keep fairly low-maintenance routines, but their concerns differ. Dane has oily skin with clogged pores and occasional breakouts, while Fran has normal skin and has been trying to become more consistent with her routine.
Fran’s first impressions during the trial centered on the texture of the Night Comfort Cream. “I like how smooth the cream felt on my skin. It’s not sticky and heavy.”
By Day 7, she was waking up to skin without the dry or tight feeling she sometimes experienced in the morning. “When I wake up, my skin feels smooth and hydrated. It’s so moisturized.”

That improvement became more apparent by the end of the trial. After 14 days, Fran felt that her skin was healthier, less dry, and more hydrated, while also noticing that her pores appeared less visible.
Dane’s experience was more focused on breakouts and overall skin appearance. After two weeks of using the cleanser, day cream, and night cream, she said the acne she had at the beginning of the trial had dried up, and she hadn’t noticed new breakouts during the latter part of the trial.

“After the two weeks, I could confidently say that my skin looked better.”
She was also realistic about what could change within 14 days, particularly when it came to texture and bumps. Still, she noticed that her skin felt softer and said she would continue using the line.
Dannah & Driana: Different Skin Types, Shared Glow
Dannah and Driana Valdezco aren’t just sisters; they’re best friends, too—with personalities that balance each other out. Dannah describes herself as more Type B and messy, while Driana is the organized Type A between them. Still, Driana says her older sister is the generous one, particularly when it comes to sharing her beauty finds. “My makeup is from her as well. So everything you see, it’s from her,” she joked.
Dannah got into skincare first, and Driana shared that she often follows her sister’s recommendations. “Even if we have different skin types, I still use what she uses.”
This time, the two entered the trial with different concerns. Dannah has oily, acne-prone skin with dark marks and occasional unevenness, while Driana has normal-to-dry sensitive skin and often deals with dry patches and acne marks.
The Night Comfort Cream quickly stood out for both, although for different reasons. Driana liked its texture and found that her skin became softer and more hydrated during the first week. “When I first tried it, my first impression with it is that it’s not heavy.”
By Day 7, she was already noticing less dryness, although she wasn’t seeing much change in brightening yet. By Day 14, she felt that her skin was smoother, less dull, and more hydrated.

“The difference I noticed the most in my skin was hydration, texture, and how glowy it became upon using the product,” she said.
Dannah also appreciated the texture of the Night Comfort Cream, particularly because heavier moisturizers can be uncomfortable on oily skin. She described its creamy gel texture as hydrating without feeling greasy.

She noticed some breakouts during the first week and wasn’t sure yet how they would play out as she continued the routine. By the end of the trial, however, she felt that her skin looked brighter and that some of her dark spots appeared lighter. “I feel like my dark spots have started to look lighter… [and] I do feel like my skin texture was a lot smoother.”
For both sisters, makeup application became another way of noticing the difference. With skin feeling more hydrated and smoother, they felt their base makeup applied more evenly.
Five Pairs, One Routine
Fourteen days is only the beginning of any skincare story, but the trial gave each pair plenty to compare notes on. Across the five duos, hydration was the most consistent takeaway, with several participants also noticing smoother-feeling skin and a brighter, more even-looking complexion. The Brightening Night Comfort Cream emerged as the clear group favorite, appreciated for its rich-but-comfortable feel across different skin types.
And perhaps that’s the fun of putting skincare to the test with your best friend: You have someone to compare notes with, call you out when you’re imagining things, and tell you honestly when they notice a difference. After 14 days, our ten testers had plenty to say—and a few products they were ready to keep using.
