In this edition of The Editor’s Room featuring Clinique, skincare enthusiasts of all ages gathered in their boutique at SM Aura Premier as we put the spotlight on retinol via an in-depth exploration of the brand’s Smart Clinical Repair line. 

While retinol isn’t a new player in the skincare game, it’s definitely gained a lot of attention during the pandemic as beauty content creators across the globe shared their own experiences—and results—using the ingredient. While it’s been highly regarded throughout the years, many still don’t fully grasp its full capacity and what it can truly do for the skin—which is what the event aimed to address.

The exclusive gathering started with a quick introduction to Clinique’s retinol-peptide-infused skincare line, designed for both those experiencing signs of aging and those who have yet to see the manifestations of time in their skin. It had an educational twist to it as board-certified dermatologist Dr. Mitch Tanchiong explained the transformative effects of retinol on the skin, while Clinique’s Educational Director, Randolph Cheung, highlighted the benefits of their products, supported by the brand’s own research.

The day was really eye-opening as it tackled the most pressing skincare myths and practices. For instance, we learned that starting retinol in your early 20s can actually help with “de-aging” and how pore-sagging is becoming a new sign of aging, especially among millennials. Let’s just say many preconceived connotations of the famous skincare ingredient were addressed by Dr. Tanchiong and Cheung—giving more ease to those who are thinking of adding retinol to their skincare in the near future.

An event wouldn’t be complete without activities, and for Clinique, two were at the ready for the day. A quick skin consultation was done by the brand’s experts so that guests could get a rundown of which products suit their skin the most. On top of that, a Monopoly-inspired game was prepared by the team to put the guests’ knowledge to the test—just a little bit! It turned into a win-for-everyone activity since they were able to win a mini product from Clinique on top of their giveaway bag.

It truly was an event that left us all learning a thing or two about retinol, aging, and everything in between. ‘Til the next!
